There are two types of products under WELS -- Mandatory WELS and Voluntary WELS.

Products Under Mandatory WELS are required by PUB to comply with the WELS efficiency standards and requirements. They must be accompanied by labels for the specified supply, sale and use in Singapore.

It is not necessary for Products Under Voluntary WELS to meet the PUB's WELS efficiency standards and requirements. Vendors of these products may voluntarily apply for their products to be labelled by demonstrating that their products meet PUB's WELS efficiency standards and requirements.

For household washing machines and dishwashers, commercial dishwasher and washer extractor, look out for the water efficient wash mode recommended by the manufacturer in their Product Literature, Instruction Manual or Supplier’s Declaration for the respective appliances. The recommended wash mode has been tested for:

   • Normally-soiled load for clothes washing machines
   • Normally-soiled tableware for dishwashers
   • Nominal load for washer extractor
   • Normally-soiled washware (standard cleaning cycle) for commercial dishwasher.

The water efficiency ratings of the water fittings and products have been awarded based on test results. Actual water flow rates, consumption or flush volumes from these fittings and products may not be similar to the test results obtained at the test laboratories at all times when put in use.
