Title
Improvement to Kallang River (between Bishan Road and Braddell Road)
Purpose of project
The current Kallang River (between Bishan Road and Braddell Road) will be undergoing upgrading work to widen and deepen the canal to increase its drainage capacity.
Scope of work
As part of the canal widening work, a 100-metre stretch of the canal walls will be incorporated with ABC Waters features and greened using planters and creepers, softening the concrete hardscape. This leads on to a 410-metre long stream that meanders its way around the planter islands within the channel. Park users are then greeted by the sound of cascading water as the stream widens and passes over a series of cascades to meet a permanent body of water. Cantilevered decks along this 910m stretch of Kallang River with permanent water allow residents to get closer to water. Together with the enhancement works, this section of Kallang River will be deepened and widened as part of drainage improvement works to cater to more intense storms. ABC Waters design features such as a rain garden will also be incorporated to cleanse rainwater runoff before it is discharged into the waterway. As part of the makeover, PUB and NParks will also be co-developing and upgrading the Kallang Linear Par
Current update on progress
A temporary Park Connector route has been built along Bishan Street 13 to provide residents with continued connectivity while PUB does improvement work to the canal. A layout of this alternative jogging and cycling route is appended below for your perusal.
